The PPK you show is the 'W' series. a very scarce and hard to find variation. Unfortunately there is not much if any information as to what the 'W' suffix means. Rankin mentions the pistol in his book but with no info on what it is. In any event to a PPK collector this is a very desirable pistol. Hope this helps.

Is there any place where a collector could find production dates for Walthers regarding their serial number?
Nice PPK by the way!

Here is an excellent link to a web page maintained by a dedicated and knowledgable Austrian collector that contains a fine listing of approximate PP/PPK production dates. It is for public consumption, so perhaps our moderator will copy the results and pin it for future reference? It is properly credited as to ownership and creation.

Greetings..
I have a Walther PP for sale, and I have a guy who wants to buy it, but he won't buy it unless I can prove that it is war time. Pistols are not my strong point, so I need help dating this pistol. It is a standard PP, there are no markings on it except for the serial number and maker code. It has a rough war finish, and there is no Walther legend on the left side. The number is 389337 P, and directly below it is the AC maker code. I can find no prood marks anywhere on the gun.
Any help that can be offered would be greatly welcomed.
